Pinar Cakmak is a talented digital artist, originating from Vienna and now living in Istanbul. From she first picked-up a brush in earnest, paint and music have been inseparable for her. In her own words:

Music is my biggest source of inspiration in life, whether I have a paintbrush in hand or not. Over time this habit has become a kind of dependence. I have come to believe that inside every song that inspires me there is a painting and I cannot rest until I have given life to that painting.

“Reincarnation 0f Art - Art Reincarnated By Music” is my first solo exhibition. The works displayed show both the savagery and melancholy within Bouguereau’s “Cupid and Psyche”, the inner vitality of the beautiful women of Godward and reveal the fantasies and real lives within them.

All the classics I touched once again have started to breathe the same air we breathe, re-born in today’s consciousness. It is as if they are no longer left as cold relics of the past, but have come to life as smiling, chatting, dancing, loving spirits of humanity. I find myself wishing that I could cross their paths and stop to talk to them.

In November 2008, Wordth1000 challenged digital artists to take a classic work of art and include some indisputable UFO reference. Out of the 33 contest entries no less than six were remastered Bouguereaus. Contest winner was Mandrak, a regular on the site. His Alien was based on William Bouguereau’s 1885 work Love Disarmed.

Contemporary pop artist Ron English [wiki] is mostly known for his ‘liberated’ commercial billboards and album covers. For his The Secret History of Kiss exhibition in November 2008, at the Shooting Gallery in San Francisco, he chose a new direction by recreating several classic works of art, including some by Bouguereau. A common feature of all pieces is the typical face decoration of American 70s rock group Kiss [wiki]. Unlike most digitally remastered artwork on this site, Ron English created his works with oil on canvas.

This spooky artwork was the winning entry in the Halloween Ren photoshop contest on Worth1000 in October 2008. The challenge:

The great painters have created many breathtaking works of art, but so very few of their pieces could be called “Halloween art.” For this contest, we want you to rectify that! Take a classic painting, and “Halloweenify” it.

No less than four of the 33 entries were remastered Bouguereaus, and two of them were winners. They are all shown below. Gold winner TrickTreat (left) was created by Frogman12834. Bronze winner Young Apprentice (second from left) was the work of John93036. William Bouguereau and Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio lived nearly three centuries apart, but that’s nothing in art history. Here we see how the two masters joined forces (or was it Stadsman?) to create Dirty Old Men, a masterful combination of Bouguereau’s Evening Mood (1882) and Caravaggio’s Doubting Thomas (1602-1603). It was the winning entry in the Re(n)union contest on Worth1000, in October 2008. Digital artists were invited to take parts of two or more artworks by different artists and put them together to create one new masterpiece.

In total, three Bouguereaus were used in the contest. Below you can see all of them.
